Reflecting on 2022 Impact and Looking Ahead to 2023

We want to thank you for your support and share updates on last year’s progress and impact. It’s hard to believe we are embarking on our 17th year as an organization. As we welcome the new year and reflect on 2022, we have a true appreciation for how far we have come and how much we have yet to do in 2023. We would not be where we are without your generosity. For that, we are eternally grateful. Thank you!

Ivy’s House - Our New Birthing Center

Ivy’s House, our new birthing center and mothers’ waiting house, is now completed and ready to become operational. It will be the first of 10+ buildings that make up the Loibor Siret Health Centre, which will be a medium-size hospital serving a remote and large area surrounding Loibor Siret Village in Tanzania.

Ivy’s House is named after Ivy Case who was a critical member of our organization as she trained over 100 traditional birth attendants every year for five years. We sadly lost Ivy over a year ago and her family graciously took the lead to raise the funds to build the facility in her honor. The center provides housing for expecting mothers, toilets and showers, educational space, birthing rooms, a 30,000 liter rainwater catchment tank, and an external kitchen.

Technology and Communication Learning Center

Two years ago, we made a commitment to bring technology to the secondary school in Loibor Siret that serves a population of over 50,000. This was a big commitment since the school did not have electricity, computers, or faculty who knew how to use computers. In partnership with the school, we installed solar power and provided 10 laptops and 12 Raspberry Pi computers, a printer, and projector.

The faculty and students now receive regular training from our staff and two HFC volunteers, in Pennsylvania and Texas, via Zoom. Now, 300+ students, who had never touched a computer before, have all taken basic computer courses.

We are in the process of building a new Technology and Communications Learning Center on the school grounds to allow for expanded programs and additional students. Paulo, our team member with a university degree in computer science is leading this initiative that has gained the attention of all the schools in the district. Our goal is for this to become a demonstration site that leads the way in Manyara Region.
